A monitoring dashboard shows a lot of numbers. A small number of them actually tell you whether the system is working as intended.

Start with generation against expectation, not generation alone
A daily generation figure on its own tells you very little, because weather changes every day. What matters is whether today's generation is in line with what a similar day should produce, given the season and the sky conditions at the time.
Most monitoring platforms can show an expected curve alongside the measured one. A gap that keeps appearing at the same time of day, on otherwise clear days, is worth investigating before it becomes a pattern nobody notices.
Per-string or per-panel data catches problems earlier
System-level totals can hide a single underperforming string behind a fleet of healthy ones. Where the inverter supports it, per-string monitoring is what actually narrows a fault down to a shaded panel, a loose connector or a failing optimiser, rather than a guess.
A monthly five-minute check beats a daily glance
Daily numbers move with the weather and rarely mean much on their own. A short monthly comparison against the same month a year earlier, or against the expected curve, is a more reliable way to notice a slow decline before it becomes a call-out.
Monitoring is a tool, not a dashboard to admire
The value of monitoring is entirely in whether someone actually looks at it, and knows which numbers are worth their attention. A system handed over with working access and a short explanation of what normal looks like will get watched. One handed over with only a login rarely will.
